Some other items from our November Newsletter

The Gateacre Society will have a sales table and photographic display in Belle Vale Shopping Centre on Friday 26th November between 10.30am and 3pm. Our book Gateacre & Belle Vale: in Old Photographs - and our Gateacre Village tea towels - will be on sale, and Committee members will be on hand to answer enquiries.

The photograph below, taken during redevelopment of the Lovell & Christmas jam factory site (later Newforge Foods, now Morrisons) in about 1963/64, shows a large house which - according to a handwritten note on the back of the original photograph - may have been called 'Treehaven'. We are trying to find out more about this building: where exactly it stood, when it was built, who lived there, etc. If you can help, please contact Beryl Plent.

Many members will have noticed that building work is now underway in Sandfield Road: the conversion of the 1898 Liverpool District Lighting Company power station building to 5 apartments, which was granted planning permission (ref. 09F/1205) in August 2009. In addition, the planning application to convert the former Gateacre Chapel Hall into two dwellings (ref. 10F/0581) was approved in June 2010, and work on this will presumably begin shortly.

The following applications have recently been submitted, and comments are being invited by the City Council's Planning Department:

Ref. 10T/2307
to carry out tree works at 1 Gateacre Brow, We understand that this is for pruning of branches to increase the visibility of proposed new signage at the doctors' surgery. (The signs themselves will be the subject of a separate application for Advertisement Consent).

Ref. 10O/2198
to erect a four-bedroom dwelling in the garden of 21 Grange Weint. This is an application for Outline Planning Permission, and appears to be similar to the one submitted in 2005 (which was refused) in succession to the expired planning permission originally granted in 2000.

To view Planning Application drawings, and to find out whether a particular decision has yet been made, visit the Liverpool Planning Explorer website and enter the appropriate reference into the Application Number box. Then click on 'Search' in the bottom right-hand corner. When the Search Results appear, click on the reference to display details of the application. Click on 'Related Documents' at the bottom of the page to display the list of available documents. To view any of the PDF files listed, right-click on the Document Name and download/save the file in the usual way.
