Application Ref. 13F/0306 to build a single-storey house in the garden area, accessed from Oakfield Avenue (see last Newsletter) was REFUSED by the City Council on 26th March. The reason given in the Council's Decision Notice was that the new dwelling "would have an adverse impact and undermine not only the landscape setting of the application property but also the other two Grade II listed buildings which form the remainder of the terrace".

THE FALSTAFF, Gateacre Park Drive
Application Ref. 13F/0625 has been submitted to erect 14 detached houses, following demolition of the existing pub. The official deadline for comments was 25th April, but no decision has yet been made. In our own comments to the Planning Department we stated that, while we had no objection in principle to the replacement of the pub by houses, we think it is important to retain a broad green strip along the Gateacre Park Drive and Rockbourne Avenue frontages. Accordingly we suggested that the number of houses should be limited to 11, which would allow them to be set further back from the road and given larger garden areas than shown on the applicant's drawings.
