"I was born in Wavertree at the Sefton General Hospital then called Smithdown Rd Hospital. I lived in Roby Street from 3yr to 14yrs - this was during the 2nd world war - and for a while after that. I used to go to Lawrence Rd School and my parents were married in St Bridget's Church. So my childhood was spent in Wavertree. I used to play in the 'Mystery' and also Sefton Park. I went to Sunday School at the Wellington Rd Mission. and for entertainment we went to the pictures at the 'Abbey' followed by Fish & Chips on the way home.
"My grandparents lived in West Derby & Wavertree all their lives their names were Henry Cropper and Sarah Emily Maher. When I was 14 yrs my parents and me and my sister moved to Gateacre and lived in the pre-fabs. In 1952 we emigrated to Australia. We live in the Melbourne Suburb of Greensborough. My mother, who is 87yrs old, still has many happy memories of Wavertree. She used to work at the Lune Laundry before she married."
